Douglas Laing unveils single casks for winter

Scotch whisky bottler and blender Douglas Laing has unveiled a new winter line-up for its Exceptional Single Cask range, which includes a 33-year-old Port Ellen.

Whiskies from closed distilleries are included in Douglas Laing’s new Winter Single Cask line-up

The Glasgow-based company selected 22 casks from across Speyside, Islay and the Highlands aged between seven and 33 years.

Two of the youngest whiskies in the line-up come under Douglas Laing’s Provenance range: Provenance Talikser 7 Years Old and Provenance Glentauchers 7 Years Old.

Xtra Old Particular Port Ellen 33 Years Old is one of the oldest whiskies in the range, alongside Old Particular Carsebridge 33 Years Old, which includes liquid from the now closed namesake grain distillery.

Other old whiskies in the range include the Old Particular Glenturret 28 Years Old, Old Particular Port Dundas 27 Years Old and Xtra Old Particular Laphroaig 26 Years Old.

In order to suit the winter season, the collection includes a number of whiskies with heavy Sherry and peat influences.

“With this most recent release for the winter months, we believe we have selected some very special single casks that offer a unique insight into Scotland’s distilleries whilst bringing a warming glow to the chilliest of nights,” said Fred Laing, owner and managing director at Douglas Laing.

All whiskies in the Winter Single Cask range are non-chill-filtered and bottled without caramel colouring at a high strength (at least 44.9% abv).

Each Winter Single Cask release will be available from whisky retailers globally from November 2016.

Earlier this month Douglas Laing expanded its Highland blended malt range Timorous Beastie with the launch of a 21-year-old Sherry edition.
