Diageo to create ‘900 jobs’ at India centre
By Kristiane SherryGlobal drinks giant Diageo is to expand its Diageo Business Services India (DBSI) operation in Bangalore, creating up to 900 jobs in finance, accounting and other fields.
Drinks maker Diageo is set to create up to 900 jobs at a shared services centre in IndiaThe DBSI shared services operation – which provides Diageo, its customers and suppliers with shared business functions – is currently based at an incubation centre in the city’s Karle Town with a staff of 100.
The operation is due to move to a purpose built, permanent facility located in the Karle Town Special Economic Zone this calendar year, with an initial focus on finance and accounting before moving into business intelligence, analytics and data services.
DBSI is set to fully commence Bangalore operations on 17 October 2017, and is expected to eventually employ around 1,000 people.
The Bangalore office is part of Global Diageo Business Services, which has four other shared services centre globally in Manila, Nairobi, Budapest and Bogota.
Tracey Barnes, DBSI managing director, said the centre was built on a working culture with two “fundamental pillars”: “These are ‘how we work’ – in an open, exciting and dynamic culture, where our employees care about doing the right things, the right way and know they can make a difference; and second, ‘what we offer’ – opportunities to grow in an environment where the best of Diageo globally meets the best of India.
“At Diageo culture, diversity and inclusion are integral to our ways of working. We believe that our organisation should fully reflect the communities we work in and serve. This is particularly important in Bangalore where we are creating so many opportunities for great talent and we are aiming for an equal balance of female and male employees.”
Last month, Diageo CEO Ivan Menezes said he is “confident” the global drinks group can deliver growth in fiscal 2017, after 2015/16 net sales slipped 3% on a reported basis to £10.4 billion.
