Matthew McConaughey directs Wild Turkey ad

Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey has made his directorial debut with a television commercial for Wild Turkey Bourbon after becoming creative director for the brand.

Italian drinks group Gruppo Campari, owner of Wild Turkey, announced its partnership with the Dallas Buyers Club and Interstellar star last month. In his role with the brand, McConaughey has a mission to “reintroduce the world” to the brand through a series of television and digital advertising campaigns.

McConaughey stars in, directs and narrates this new advertisement as part of Wild Turkey’s ‘It’ll Find You’ campaign.

The advert, shot on location in Southern California, takes place in a vibrant jazz club and features music from New Orleans’ The Hot 8 Brass Band, which was hand-selected by McConaughey.

“So many times people choose their drinks to fit in and join the crowd,” said McConaughey. “Wild Turkey is about something different. The tagline ‘It’ll Find You’ is at the heart of what Wild Turkey is all about.

“If you are being yourself, unapologetically doing things your own way, then you are at home wherever you are, and Wild Turkey, well, it’ll find you.”

McConaughey worked with J. Walter Thompson New York and RSA Films in Los Angeles to create the advertisement, which will begin running in the US in September.

“With this new television campaign, he has tapped into what so many Wild Turkey fans understand about the brand and themselves – take pride in the choices you make, even if they are different, because they make you who you are.”
