Lagavulin unveils 2016 Jazz Festival edition

Lagavulin has released its 2016 Jazz Festival distillery-only editionThe expression, a blend of refill American oak hogsheads and first fill American oak standard barrels, is the latest in a series of limited, distillery-only bottlings to mark the annual festival.
Described as “sweet and smoky”, given nosing and tasting notes include honey, fresh fruit, smoked ham, raisins, toffee, tobacco and “classic Lagavulin smoke”. With water, the expression is said to offer more vanilla notes on the nose, while the smoke moves “front of stage”.
“This year’s limited edition is extra special,” said Georgie Crawford, distillery manager at Lagavulin distillery. “It encapsulates 200 years of Lagavulin and one of our busiest and best times on Islay – the Lagavulin Islay Jazz Festival.”
The no-age-statement release joins Lagavulin 8 Year Old and Lagavulin 25 Year Old, both released this year to mark the distillery’s bicentenary year.
Lagavulin Islay Jazz Festival 2016 is bottled at 54.5% abv and retails at £99. A total of 6,000 bottles have been made available exclusively from the Lagavulin distillery from 9 September.
