Dublin Liberties whiskey unveils 10yo single malt

The Dublin Whiskey Company, recently acquired by Quintessential Brands, has launched a limited edition 10-year-old single malt Irish whiskey called The Dublin Liberties Copper Alley.

UK drinks group Quintessential Brands acquired Dublin Whiskey Company along with its The Dublin Liberties and The Dubliner Irish Whiskey brands, as well as the company’s Dublin-based €10 million distillery, earlier this year.

As part of the deal, Quintessential Brands has acquired a historic site based in the Liberties, Dublin, where work will commence on building the new distillery in 2017. Once completed, this distillery will produce liquid for The Dublin Liberties range.

The company has sourced liquid to create the new Dublin Liberties Copper Alley, which joins The Dublin Liberties Oak Devil as the second expression in the range.

The new expression is double barrelled, spending 10 years in Bourbon casks before being transferred to 30-year-old oloroso Sherry casks for a further six months. Just 31 casks of the whiskey have been bottled.

“My inspiration for Copper Alley was going back to the original methods of Irish whiskey making,” said Darryl McNally, master distiller at The Dublin Liberties Distillery.

“Having rested for 10 years in Bourbon casks, I felt it just needed something extra to really bring it to life. Working with our cask partners, I came across some 30-year-old Sherry casks of exceptional quality that I knew would give the whiskey an edge.

“This is a one off – there are only 31 casks, so this is a whiskey which will be little repeated.”

On global release from September 2016, The Dublin Liberties Copper Alley is priced from €65-€69 (about US$72-$77) for a 70cl bottle.
