Spirits start-up plans US$5m Kentucky distillery

Start-up spirits producer Patriot Brands is set to build an 8,000-square-foot US$5 million distillery and historical park in Henry County, Kentucky.

Six-Mile Distillery Company expect to begin construction in September

Six-Mile Creek Distillery will produce Bourbon and other spirits, and will feature a bed and breakfast and a series of tasting venues – including an 18th century log cabin and a 300-square-foot treehouse.

In addition, the site will provide educational opportunities, and will honour patriots of the Revolutionary War with a history park created in association with local Amish community members.

The Pleasureville-based site is located within the heart of Bourbon country – within 35 miles of six major distilleries – and is expected to create 15 full-time jobs.

“The commonwealth has a long, proud history of distilling and it is our pleasure to welcome Patriot Brands to this Kentucky tradition,”  said Governor Matt Bevin.

“The economic impact made by our major bourbon and spirits producers is recognised at a national and an international level. Start-ups like Patriot Brands are drivers of product diversity in the marketplace. Not only will this company add innovation to one of Kentucky’s signature industries, it will also be honouring the rich heritage of Kentucky distilling and paying tribute to the patriots who fought for the liberties we treasure today.”

Earlier this week, Patriot Brands was approved for up to US$400,000 in tax incentives by the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority.

Construction is expected to begin in September with operations underway by August 2017.
