By Amy HopkinsHine has commissioned artist James Viscardi to create an original design to adorn a rare bottle of Hine 1916 Vintage Cognac, which will go under the hammer at the upcoming La Part des Anges auction.
James Viscardi has created a bespoke design for a bottle of Hine Cognac from 1916
American artist Viscardi, winner of the Hine Painting Prize in 2011, was asked to decorate the bespoke beech wood presentation box and design the label for the vintage.
Hine 1916 Vintage Cognac was crafted during the First World War while David Thomas and his cousin George Thomas were running the firm.
Since Hine believes its Cognacs reach “optimum maturity” at around 50-years-old, the vintage was poured from its oak cask to a five-litre demi-john in the 1960s. It was then bottled a few months ago by Hine’s estate manager and cellar master Eric Forget.
Forget describes the Cognac as having an aroma of currents, iris and white peppers and flavour of bitter marmalade with a walnut finish. The reserve for the Hine lot is €7,000.
The 10th edition of La Part des Anges will take place on 22 September 2016 on the banks of the Charente in Cognac. The event will make its “one-of-a-kind” Cognac lots to bidders globally for the first time.
