Distillery invests in female entrepreneurs

A husband and wife team in Minnesota have launched Her Spirit, a start-up distillery which plans to invest half of its profits in female entrepreneurs.

Her Spirit is to donate 50% of its profits to female entrepreneurs

The distillery, which is based in Saint Paul, Minnesota, is the brainchild of Steve Merila – the founder of White Bear Lake’s Big Wood Brewery – and his wife Kjersten.

Her Spirit’s mission is to “inspire women to reach their business goals” by investing half of its profits into female entrepreneurs through a ‘Give Back’ programme – for women who “believe they can, so they do”.

For the first year, the programme will be funded by a US$5,000 investment from the duo before the distillery starts to turn a profit.

The distillery will be taking candidates applications in January 2017.

Her Spirit is set to release a vodka in late 2016, called Her Vodka, with whiskey, Bourbon, and gin to follow thereafter.

Her Vodka will be made from corn sourced in US, and distilled six times.
