Crowdfund for Studio 338 victim reaches US$10k

A JustGiving page set up to raise funds to support the family of the man killed in a fire at London nightclub Studio 338 exceeded its £5,000 target in a matter of hours and has now reached £8,000 (US$10,000).

The Studio 338 employee, named on social media as Tomas Ceidukas, died on Tuesday as a result of the injuries he suffered while helping people evacuate the London venue.

Following his death, Studio 338 club director Dan Perrin set up a JustGiving page to pay for Ceidukas’s repatriation to his native Lithuania, cover funeral and memorial costs, and to continue to support his family based in the country.

At the time of writing, donations to the fund had exceeded £8,111 (about US$10,300).

“As you will all know by now, we lost our beloved Tomas to the fire on Monday,” Perrin wrote.

“He was the bravest, happiest soul one could hope to meet. He was always ready to help anyone in need and now we hope we can do this last thing for him by giving him a wonderful send off and supporting his family in this awful time.

“All donations will go towards bringing Tomas home to Lithuania, giving him a lovely memorial service and then donating the remaining money to his small family who relied on what he sent home from his job here at Studio 338.”

Around 100 firefighters were called to tackle the blaze at the venue on Boord Street in Greenwich after it started on the morning of 8 August.

It is not yet known what started the fire, and the police and fire services are continuing to investigate the blaze.
