Altia and Distell bring Scotch into deal

Finnish drinks group Altia and Distell Group have agreed to extend an existing distribution partnership to now include the South Africa-based firm’s Scotch portfolio.

Altia will now distribute Distell’s Scotch portfolio in the Nordics, including single malts from Tobermory

Under the agreement, Altia becomes Distell’s exclusive representative in the HoReCa trade in Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark and travel retail, effective October 2016.

Distell’s Scotch portfolio includes blends Scottish Leader and Black Bottle, in addition to single malts Bunnahabhain, Deanston, Tobermory and Ledaig.

“We have had a very successful long-term regional partnership with Distell, and this is an excellent continuation and expansion for the co-operation,” said Janne Halttunen, senior vice president, partner brands at Altia.

“As the whisky category is on the growth in the Nordics, Distell’s distinguished brands are a notable addition to our partner brands portfolio.”

Jörgen Andersson, regional manager, Nordics and Southern Europe, Distell, added: “Altia has proven to have strong organisational capabilities and commitment to grow our wine portfolio and Amarula cream liqueur in the Nordic region.

“We are glad to have such a strong regional partner to further develop and grow our premium spirits portfolio in the region.”

Altia Corporation saw its operating profits increase in 2015, despite net sales falling 10.7%.
