Tomatin unveils 44YO Warehouse 6 release

Highland Scotch distillery Tomatin has released a 44-year-old single cask expression, the first whisky in its new luxury Warehouse 6 Collection.

Matured in Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks, the 1971 edition is said to offer aromas of almond, plum, ginger cake and marzipan, and flavours of caramel, dark chocolate, coffee and winter fruits.

Just 252 bottles of the single cask expression have been made available, the first in a likely annual series in the Warehouse 6 Collection of 40-year-old-plus whiskies.

“We are thrilled to launch our 1971 single malt, the first rare and limited expression in our Warehouse 6 Collection,” said Stephen Bremner, Tomatin sales director.

“We have spent decades perfecting this delicate spirit that reflects our dedication to producing whisky of exceptional quality.  The single malt evokes the soft house character of Tomatin with an intricate medley of rich tones and flavours which are truly unique.”

The 1971 whisky is presented in a hand-blown crystal decanter decorated with solid copper accents and presented inside an ornate box alongside two crystal tumblers and a copper “travel” stopper.

Opulent in design, the box itself comprises varnished wood laminate, plexiglass and rose gold to communicate the exclusivity of the release.

Tomatin Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky 1971 is bottled at 45.8% abv and retails at £2,500. The product will be available from specialist retailers and establishments worldwide.

Last month, Tomatin released Cù Bòcan 1988, a 28-year-old Sherry-matured Scotch bottled at cask strength of 51.5% abv.
