Patrón expands cocktail competition for 2016

Following the success of its inaugural Patrón Perfectionist’s Cocktail Competition in the UK, Tequila brand Patrón has extended the reach to include international entries for 2016.

Dean Shury of Chiltern Firehouse won the competition in 2015 with his cocktail ‘Providence’

Bartenders from Mexico, Australia, UAE, France, Spain and Italy as well as the UK are invited to enter this year’s competition, which challenges bartenders to invent a Patrón Tequila cocktail “worthy of a perfectionist”.

The winning entrant will receive an all-expenses paid trip to the Hacienda Patrón; Patrón Tequila’s distillery in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. Their cocktail will also feature as a limited-edition serve at the winner’s bar.

Matthew Sykes, director of international marketing, Patrón Spirits International, said: “2016 sees another chance for us to put our ultra premium Tequila in the hands of the best bartenders but this time on an international scale.

“The Patrón Perfectionist’s Cocktail Competition allows those who respect and understand Tequila, to experiment and learn about the versatility of the spirit.

“With the motivation of the competition focused on craftsmanship, attention to detail and a commitment to absolute perfection – the hallmarks of Patrón Tequila – we are excited to see the different international interpretations that are created as a result of the Patrón Perfectionist’s Cocktail Competition.”

Last year’s winner, Dean Shury from Chiltern Firehouse, created the ‘Providence’ cocktail; a combination of Patrón Silver, Dolin dry vermouth, homemade herbes de provence, olive soda, and garnished with an olive, a sprig of lavender and lemon oil.

Dean said: “I would highly recommend that bartenders enter the Patrón Perfectionist’s Cocktail Competition. There is so much to gain from becoming a Patrón Perfectionist and it has given me access to places and experiences that I will remember always.”
