Bottled at cask strength of 48.1% abv, Tobermory Aged 42 Years is said to have a heavily sherried nose with an aroma of sooty smoke, liquorice and black cherry, and a flavour of bitter chocolate, coffee and oak.

The limited edition whisky is presented in bespoke box that features a painting of Tobermory’s colourful waterfront cottages by Angus Stewart.

“This limited edition release offers a unique opportunity for discerning whisky fans, collectors and connoisseurs to purchase a historic malt from the only distillery on the picturesque Hebridean Isle of Mull,” said Alison Gibb, global marketing manager for Distell’s malts portfolio.

“Rich and luxurious, its nose, palate, finish and presentation, all reflect the craftsmanship and passion involved in creating such a special malt.”

Just 650 bottled of Tobermory Aged 42 Years will be available in global travel retail at an RRP of £2,500.

Based on the Isle of Mull, Tobermory Distillery creates two different single malt brands: the unpeated Tobermory and peated Ledaig. The distillery is owned by South African drinks group Distell.

Earlier this year, Tobermory Distillery released a limited edition 20-year-old vintage single malt Scotch whisky – Ledaig 1996.
