Christie’s offers 1915 Cedar Brook whiskey
By Amy HopkinsAuction house Christie’s has introduced rare American whiskey to its All-American Sale for the first time, featuring Pappy Van Winkle and pre-Prohibition bottlings.
The Plankington Reserve whiskey was bottled by Cedar Brook Distillery in 1915
Christie’s Wine Online/NYC: All-American Sale began yesterday, with old and hard-to-find whiskeys sitting alongside rare American wines.
“The span of American vintages in this sale evoke a historically relevant time and place for the wines and spirits on offer and are true venerable pieces of American liquor history,” the auction house said.
In addition to Pappy Van Winkle bottlings, whiskey highlights include a rare lot of A. H. Hirsch 16 Year Old distilled in 1974 and a carboy of pre-Prohibition Bourbon from the now-closed Cedar Brook Distillery in Anderson County, Kentucky.
The whiskey, called Plankington Reserve, was distilled in 1903 and bottled in 1915 for Plankington Hotel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Christie’s said it is the “rarest and most unique spirits lots” the auction house has ever offered.
More than 170 lots comprise the sale, which will continue for two weeks.
