Campari launches extra añejo Espolòn TequilaBy Amy Hopkins
Gruppo Campari has launched a limited edition extra añejo version of its Espolòn Tequila brand that has been aged for six years.
Launched through the group’s US arm Campari America, Espolòn Añejo X is packaged in matte black glass bottle that pays tribute to the Mexican art form Barro Negro and reflects the story of The Day of the Dead.
“It’s unusual to find tequilas aged longer than two or three years, but master distiller Cirilo Oropeza knew he had something worth resurrecting with this six-year-old liquid,” said Christine Moll, category marketing director – Tequila and Rum, Campari America.
“Espolòn has wowed consumers and bartenders alike with its high quality spirit, one-of-a-kind packaging and approachable price. With this latest entry, Espolòn Añejo X, the team has done it again, producing an alluring tequila in a collectible-worthy bottle.”
Espolòn Añejo X is said to have a “classic agave flavour” with notes of vanilla, nutmeg, white peppercorn, cocoa, bitter chocolate and roasted fruits. The variant, which is now available in limited quantities across the US, is bottled at 41% abv and carries an RRP of US$99.99.
