Luxco breaks ground on Bourbon Trail distilleryBy Melita Kiely
Kentucky-based firm Luxco has broken ground on its US$35 million distillery in the heart of the Bourbon Trail, which is set to create 34 new full-time jobs.
The finished facility will be Luxco’s first stand-alone, wholly owned distillery, spanning 18,000 square feet with six barrel warehouses, a tasting room and an events space.
Luxco, which produces Rebel Yell, Ezra Brooks and Blood Oath, plans to have the new site completed by late 2017.
“We are looking forward to building the distillery on this scenic property and in such a central location in Bardstown,” said David Bratcher, president and COO of Luxco, as reported by The Lane Reporter.
“We intend the distillery to be a welcoming stop for those visiting the Kentucky Bourbon Trail and we are excited to bring our Bourbon experience and brands to Nelson County.”
Numerous bodies within Kentucky, including the Kentucky Economic Development Cabinet and the Nelson County Economic Development Agency, have backed Luxco’s distillery.
The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) preliminarily approved US$1.3 million in tax incentives, while The Joint City-County Planning Commission also approved re-zoning of the land for this particular project.
In March 2016, Luxco revealed plans to acquire LA-based Veev Spirits for an undisclosed amount.
