Douglas Laing unveils second cask strength Scallywag whisky
By Annie HayesDouglas Laing & Co has released Scallywag Cask Strength #2, the latest whisky in a series paying homage to the Laing family’s long line of Wire Fox Terriers.
The new release follows Scallywag Cask Strength, released in June last year, and is created using a number of Speyside malts, including those distilled at Mortlach, Macallan and Glenrothes distilleries.
The expression offers a “rich, orange marmalade character, complemented by cinnamon and warm ginger” on the nose, while on the palate; spiced apple, rhubarb crumble, and vanilla, accompanied by a “sweet raisin and fudge quality” and “distinct coffee note”.
The finish “long and fruity” finish offers dark chocolate and toasted oaks with a “sweet and juicy backdrop”
Douglas Laing’s managing director, Fred Laing, said: “We at Douglas Laing & Co continually strive to be leaders of the pack in creative packaging and seek to fill an even greater spirit into the bottle.
“I believe this latest all-Speyside Cask Strength canine creation doggedly embodies that philosophy by combining a very fun pack with a seriously good quality Wwisky, not to be sniffed at.
“The vatting created for Scallywag Cask Strength #2 combines some really fructiferously-spiced Spanish Sherry Butts with specially selected vanilla driven Bourbon hogsheads, and proves, though I may say so myself, that there’s life in the old dog yet!”
Bottled at 54.1% abv, Scallywag Cask Strength #2 is available with a complimentary Father’s Day card at www.douglaslaing.com and selected specialist Whisky retailers. Just 4800 bottles will be made available globally.
