Cooper Spirits Co. releases ‘oldest’ straight rye

The Cooper Spirits Company has launched Lock Stock & Barrel 16, the “oldest” straight rye whiskey available, following the passing of founder Robert J. Cooper last month.

Lock Stock & Barrel 16 is said to be the “oldest” straight rye whiskey available today

Building on the success of the 13-year-old expression, the family-owned producer has unveiled new Lock Stock & Barrel 16 Straight Rye Whiskey, said to be the oldest of its kind.

The whiskey is double distilled from a rare mash bill of 100% rye grain in copper pot stills. A “robust cut” is then selected by master distillers, and aged in cold weather in freshly-charred American oak barrels.

Lock Stock & Barrel 16 is said to be “explosively flavourful, yet perfectly balanced”, with notes of roasted acorns, sour grass, wild cherries, stewed blackberry, dried pear and sassafras.

The spirit is presented in a black glass bottle, featuring a gold embossed label and wood cork closure to pay homage to the era of illicit saloons and bootleggers of frontier America.

Lock Stock and Barrel 16 is intended to be enjoyed neat, over a large ice cube or with a splash of spring water.

Limited to just 3,000 cases and bottled at 53.5% abv, the expression is available in the US at an RRP of US$149.99.
