Bonhams to auction ‘legendary’ Dalmore 50YO
By Melita KielyThree rare bottles of Scotch will be auctioned at next week’s Bonhams Whisky sale, including a Dalmore Candela 50 Year Old that is expected to sell for between £12,000 and £14,000.
Bonhams will auction a rare 50-year-old Dalmore next week in EdinburghTaking place in Edinburgh on 8 June, the Dalmore Candela 50 Year Old, numbered 30 of 77, was made from stocks dated 1868, 1878, 1909, 1922, 1939 and 1951.
Martin Green, Bonhams Whisky specialist, said: “It’s unusual to have three such important whiskies in the same sale.
“I’m particularly excited about the Dalmore Candela 50 Year old. This whisky has a legendary reputation among collectors for its complexity and subtlety.
“It is set to become one of the greatest of whiskies and I expect a lot of interest.”
A Gordon & Macphail Generations Mortlach 70 Year Old will also be auctioned and is expected to fetch between £15,000-£18,000.
The rare expression has been described by Charles Maclean as a “delicate, fresh, vital, fruity whisky, but with unusual attributes of waxiness and smokiness”.
It is bottled in a hand blown decanter with sterling silver stopper and cradle.
Also up for auction will be the Macallan Millennium Decanter 50 Year Old 1949, which was bottled in May 1999.
Estimated to sell for around £12,000-£14,000, the whisky is packaged in a Caithness Glass decanter with an engraved copper collar.
