Luxco finalises Bourbon Trail distillery build
St. Louis-based drinks company Luxco has finalised plans to build a US$35 million distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, at the heart of the Bourbon Trail.
Rebel Yell brand owner Luxco is to build a distillery in the heart of the Bourbon trail
Luxco looked to build a new distillery to meet increasing demand for whiskey following the “rapid growth” of its Rebel Yell, Blood Oath and Ezra Brooks Bourbon brands.
The finished distillery will span 18,000 square feet and include six barrel warehouses, a tasting room and an event space. An estimated 34 people will be employed at the site.
Buzick Construction has been awarded the contract for the build, with ground set to be broken on the 70-acre site in summer 2016.
Luxco is targeting a late 2017 completion date.
“We are looking forward to building the distillery on this scenic property and in such a central location in Bardstown,” says David Bratcher, president and COO of Luxco.
“We intend the distillery to be a welcoming stop for those visiting the Kentucky Bourbon Trail and we are excited to bring our bourbon experience and brands to Nelson County.
“At Luxco, we are always looking to be innovative. Building this distillery will allow us to control our own production as well as offer us the ability to experiment with new and innovative mash bills, barrel types and ageing techniques.”
Luxco received support for the distillery from various entities within Kentucky, including the Kentucky Economic Development Cabinet, and the Nelson County Economic Development Agency.
The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) preliminarily approved US$1.3 million in tax incentives, while The Joint City-County Planning Commission also approved re-zoning of the land for this project.
“We are excited to have Luxco become a part of our community,” says Dean Watts, Nelson County judge executive.
“Their history and success in the liquor industry will greatly enhance our County.”
2016 already marks a year of significant growth for Luxco, which last month moved to acquire Los Angeles-based Veev Spirits for an undisclosed sum.
