Work progresses on Bardstown distillery

A major project to build a new US$25 million distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, is on-track to reach completion in September this year.

The Bardstown Bourbon Company is building one of the largest new Bourbon distilleries

The Bardstown Bourbon Company first announced plans to build the 45,000-square-foot whiskey distillery in June 2014. The site will be run by former Maker’s Mark master distiller and Bourbon Hall of Fame member Steve Nally.

Last week, the firm installed a 50-foot stainless steel Vendome Copper & Brass Works still, which was installed in one piece. The still features a “unique design” with large, rectangular glass manways that will enable visitors to watch the whiskey moving through the distilling process.

“The Bardstown Bourbon Company is just a few short months away from becoming a significant addition to the American whiskey landscape,” said David Mandell, president and CEO.

“With the development of our own brands, new Collaborative Distilling Program, and unique visitors experience, we will continue to fuel interest, innovation, and growth across the entire whiskey category.”

The Bardstown Bourbon Company will initially have capacity for 1.5 million proof gallons, which can be expanded to six million proof gallons within the current design of the distillery.

The distillery will feature a “collaborative” whiskey, Bourbon and rye wholesale distilling programme, where customers can work with Bardstown to launch their own custom spirit brands.

Once operational, The Bardstown Bourbon Company will be the fifth distillery in Nelson County, Kentucky.
