Aldi and Asda recall rum over glass concerns

Supplier Glen Turner Co has recalled bottles white and dark rum from UK supermarket chains Asda and Aldi over fears they may contain fragments of glass.

Liberty Ship and Old Hopking are two of the rum brands recalled from Asda and Aldi

Glen Turner said the measure was being taken on a “precautionary basis” due to a “manufacturing defect”, with point-of-sale notices displayed in Asda and Aldi stores selling certain rum products.

Brands recalled include Carta Blanca Superior White Rum, Refined Dark Navy Rum, Liberty Ship Superior Dark Rum, Liberty Ship Superior White Rum, Old Hopking Dark Rum, Old Hopking White Rum.

Potentially affected batches of each brand have also been identified.

The Food Standards Agency issued the following advice to customers: “If you have bought one of the products listed above please return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund. Details on the advice to Asda and Aldi customers can be found in the point-of-sale notices.”
