Last Drop Distillers unveils 50YO blended Scotch
Spirits company The Last Drop Distillers has released just 898 bottles of a “double matured” 50-year-old blended Scotch whisky with a £3,000 price tag.
The Last Drop Distillers has added 50 Year Old ‘Double Matured’ Blended Scotch Whisky to its portfolio
The sixth addition to the firm’s portfolio, the “rare and exquisite” 50 Year Old ‘Double Matured’ Blended Scotch Whisky comprises more than 50 grain and malt whiskies, with the youngest in the blend laid to rest in 1965.
The blend was made for the first time back in 1995 and refilled into Bourbon casks for marrying. After most of the whisky had been bottled, the remaining spirit was matured for a further 20 years in seven Spanish hogshead ex-oloroso Sherry casks.
By extra-maturing the whisky, the expression is said to have flavours of stone fruits and honey from the Bourbon maturation, and rich and spicy tones from the Sherry casks.
Andrew Rankin, ‘nose’ to The Last Drop Distillers, said: “On the palate the whisky is rich and smooth with generous dark raisin, star anise and baked plums.
“The finish is luscious and lingering; red grape and blackcurrant with a subtle overtone of liquorice.”
Non-chill-filtered, each bottle of the 50 Year Old ‘Double Matured’ Blended Scotch Whisky is filled by hand at 51.8% abv, and sealed with wax.
