Kilchoman adds Sanaig to core range
Independent Islay distillery Kilchoman has added Sanaig, a Sherry cask-influenced single malt whisky, to its continuously available line.
Kilchoman has added Sherry cask-influenced expression
Named after a rocky inlet to the North West of the distillery, no-age-statement Sanaig has been predominantly matured in oloroso Sherry casks.
The oloroso influence results in a “dramatically transformed depth of colour and character” compared to Machir Bay, Kilchoman’s mostly Bourbon-matured core expression, says the distillery.
Both feature the term “Cask Influence” on the packaging in order to illustrate the differing flavour profiles of the whiskies.
“Sanaig represents another significant step forward for Kilchoman,” said Anthony Wills, Kilchoman founder and managing director.
“It is important to be able to offer customers consistently available releases. Until now Machir Bay has been performing that leading role; Sanaig will now share the spotlight.”
John MacLellan, Kilchoman distillery manager, added: “Sanaig is a bold marriage of Sherry and Bourbon cask maturation. It is both a continuation of the classic Kilchoman style people know and love as well as a development fans of Kilchoman have yet to experience.”
Sanaig is bottled at 46% abv and retailers at £52.50 for a 70cl, 46% abv bottle. The expression is available globally from spirits retailers, bars and the Kilchoman website now.
Kilchoman Distillery marked its 10th anniversary in December 2015. To celebrate, it auctioned off a bottle of its 10-year-old whisky, raising £7,000 for charity.
