Cask88 has announced the launch of The Merchistonian Club Whisky

Three generations of Merchistonians – former pupils of the school – who now work in the whisky industry have come together to create the release as part of an ongoing fundraising initiative to update sporting facilities at the school.

Charles Maclean (1965-1969), Edward Davidson (1986-1989) and Patrick Costello (2001-2009) together selected a 1997 single malt Scotch whisky from the Clynelish distillery.

The 19-year-old Highland whisky is from a single cask is described as having “an aromatic herbal top note” with “fresh fruit” on the nose, while on the palate it is “sweet and crisply acidic, with a long warming finish”.

The expression is available in two bottling options – either a decanter by Glencairn Crystal or a bottle. Both options include a red and blue box baring the old Merchiston logo, and the selected bottle number.

Costello said: “This whisky is the perfect wedding, birthday or reunion gift for any Merchistonian. It’s a great collectible that contributes to the fundraising appeal for new sporting facilities.”

The Merchistonian Club Whisky is bottled at 54.7% abv and is available at £125.00 for a bottle and £185.00 for a decanter.
