New whisky cask investment scheme launches

Rare and collectible whisky specialist Fairfax Whisky has launched a cask investment scheme offering “lucrative opportunities” for investors.

Fairfax Whisky has launched a new investment scheme for maturing casks and rare bottles of whisky

The company said it has employed “leading whisky experts” to provide “unparalleled insight and market research” to prospective investors.

Fairfax will offer predominantly Scotch whisky casks, but also Japanese and other world whiskies.

“Fairfax Whisky is dedicated to helping investors understand investment-grade whisky and its place in a diversified portfolio,” the company said.

“Whisky investing has existed for centuries, but has been limited to insiders. With the launch of Fairfax Whisky we’re giving all investors access to this lucrative opportunity.”

According to Fairfax, investment-grade whisky appreciates 440% in value over six years, outperforming gold, silver and real estate. Demand for rare expressions has rocketed around the world in recent years, particularly in Asia and South America, the company claimed.

Fairfax has “a few dozen casks at any given time” in its storehouses, with a “team of experts” on-hand to offer advice ahead of purchasing.

The firm also offers storage, bottling and selling services and has connections to labeling and branding agencies should investors wish to create their own whisky brand.

Said to offer the “largest stock” of rare bottles and casks of Scotch and Japanese whisky, Fairfax is headquartered in Glasgow, Scotland, with offices in Hong Kong and Philippines.

“Whisky is a truly unique tangible asset which will always have value,” the company claims on its website. “People aren’t going to stop purchasing whisky, no matter how tough things get.

“In fact, whisky has remained sheltered from the ups and downs of other industries. Even in turbulent market cycles, whisky has risen in value.”

Fairfax joins a number of other whisky investment schemes that have recently entered the market.

Last year, Rupert Patrick, former commercial director for Diageo, launched Whisky Invest Direct, while David Robertson, former master distiller for The Macallan, launched Platinum Whisky Investment Fund in collaboration with Rickesh Kishnani.
