Michter’s Distillery bottles first 10yo rye since 2014

Kentucky-based Michter’s Distillery will launch another batch of Michter’s 10 Year Single Barrel Rye after holding back stocks for extra maturation last year.

Michter’s Distillery will launch its 10 Year Single Barrel Rye whiskey in the US in March

Set to go on sale in the US in March, this is the first time the expression has been bottled since 2014 after being held back by master distiller Willie Pratt.

The whiskey has been aged in charred new American white oak barrels and is described as delivering tasting notes of vanilla, toffee, toasted almonds, cinnamon, crushed pepper and orange citrus.

“I wasn’t very popular with the sales guys who had none to sell, but I held the 10 Year Rye stocks back for a bit more maturation,” said Pratt.

“I thought they would be just great with some more age and I couldn’t be happier with how things turned out.”

Bottled at 46.4% abv, Michter’s 10 Year Single Barrel Rye has an RRP of US$150.

In November 2015, Michter’s Distillery admitted it had “run out of stock” of its US*1 Sour Mash Whiskey due to spiralling demand.

The distillery also released 10- and 20-year-old single barrel Bourbons last year after both launches were postponed to allow further ageing.
