Greenbar launches ‘six woods’ whiskeys
Los Angeles-based Greenbar Distillery has introduced two 100% barley malt whiskeys matured using six different species of tree.

Slow Hand Six Woods Malt and cask-strength variant Slow Hand Six Woods Cask are produced using 1,000 and 2,000-gallon French white oak vats. Five other woods are then used in maturation to give “additional depth and complexity”.
Hickory wood is said to add notes of plum, while maple, mulberry, red oak and grape “bring in hints of butterscotch, currants, clove and perfumed black tea, respectively”.
The barrels are sourced from France with seasoning and toasting undertaken in-house.
Co-founders and husband and wife Melkon Khosrovian and Litty Mathew say they tested more than 30 wood species before finalising the five used alongside French white oak in production.
“Forests are full of delicious trees,” said Khosrovian. “Just because all of them can’t be turned into leak-proof barrels doesn’t mean whiskey lovers should be denied their flavors. That would be like ice cream makers forcing everyone to eat only vanilla!”
The no-age-statement releases are available now in all 50 US states. Slow Hand Six Woods Malt carries an SRP of $44.99 per 84 proof/42% abv 750ml bottle, and Six Woods Cask is priced at $37.99 per 115 proof /57.5% abv 375ml bottle.
