Beefeater unveils Burrough’s Reserve Edition 2

Beefeater launched a new cask-rested gin expression, Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve Edition 2, with a formal cheese pairing led by Alex James, the bassist of rock band Blur.

Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve Edition 2 is rested in hand-selected red and white Bordeaux wine casks

Following the launch of Beefeater’s first ever cask-rested gin in 2013, the second edition sees Beefeater London Dry gin rested in hand-selected red and white Bordeaux wine casks.

Produced in small batches, the resting length of each cask is judged by master distiller Desmond Payne, resulting in an “aromatic” pale copper gin that is said to offer “a new twist on the gin-sipping experience”.

Payne said: “I initially created Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve to explore a different quality in our gin, with this second edition a continuation of the experimentation.

“The resting process is extremely delicate, with the mix of red and white Bordeaux hand-selected casks crucial to creating a balanced and distinctive taste and a spirit of the best quality possible.

“The gin itself is our award-winning London Dry recipe, but it is distilled in the small original 19th century still that belonged to our founder James Burrough.”

The expression is said to offer “soft, oak spice, balanced by the sweet, fresh aroma of juniper and citrus” on the nose, “rich, juniper-led spice” that develops into “softer notes of oak” on the palate, with “a hint of dried fruit and liquorice” on the finish.

To celebrate the launch of Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve Edition 2, the brand collaborated with Blur member and cheese producer Alex James, recognised in recent years for his ongoing support of British produce.

This week, James and Payne launched the new gin at Club Del Matador in Madrid, pairing the new gin with traditional cheeses at a one-off formal dining event.

Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve Edition 2 will be available in the UK and Spain from February and rolling out globally from spring.

Global brand director, JC Iglesias, added: “Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve Edition 2 is an exciting step for Beefeater as we continue to explore both tradition and innovation in our gin-making – a cornerstone of our business since the days of founder James Burrough.

“With the ultra-premium gin category booming, Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve Edition 2 is primed to ensure that Beefeater continues to lead the charge in bringing creative, new ways of enjoying gin to connoisseurs globally. We are sure that James Burrough would be proud to have his name on such an innovative, high-quality product.”

The expression is bottled at 43% abv and has an RRP of €55 per 70cl bottle.
