Sipsmith set to open hot gin pop-up bar

The team behind Sipsmith gin have joined forces with Soho’s Ham Yard Hotel to open a rooftop pop-up bar later this month.

Sipsmith is opening a pop-up bar, called Swan on a Hot Gin Roof

Named Swan on a Hot Gin Roof in relation to the gin brand’s famous swan logo, the pop-up bar will be open from 26 January until 14 February serving “historically inspired” hot gin cocktails.

Guests will have the opportunity to keep cosy under woollen blankets on Ham Yard Hotel’s leafy rooftop garden, while sipping cocktails created by Sipsmith master distiller Jared Brown and Ham Yard Hotel bar manager Eoin Kenny’s.

The pair has taken inspiration from as early as the 16th century all the way through to the 1920s in order to deliver a “very modern sipping menu”.

“Sipsmith is a real celebration of where the old meets the new, with the spirit of London’s gin heritage at its core, so just as I did for our original London Dry gin recipe, I’ve been delving into the history books for inspiration is where it all began,” commented Brown.

“We can see these becoming classics of the future, and where better to showcase them than at the iconic Ham Yard Hotel.”

Cocktails will include The Smoking Bishop, which is said to have been a favourite of Charles Dickens, The Original, which is a pairing of gin and gingerbread, and the Soho Gin Broth, which uses Barthelmas beef taken from a recipe from 1664.

“Sipsmith London Dry Gin is a popular serve at the bar already, so it’s been great working with Jared to explore all these flavour profiles and reimagine historical drinks recipes with the gin – we’re really proud of the results,” said Eoin Kenny, bar manager at Ham Yard Hotel.
