Cold-brew coffee liqueur seeks crowd-funding

As the trend for coffee-flavoured spirits continues, the producer of a four-step cold-brew coffee liqueur has launched a Kickstarter campaign to increase production.

The expression is created using both traditional and ‘state-of-the-art’ brewing techniques

Inspired by the Ethiopian roots of its creator, COLD&BLAC coffee liqueur is produced using both traditional and ‘state-of-the-art’ brewing techniques in a brew-room in Hackney.

So far the brand has raised £627 of its £12,500 goal via the crowd funding website, offering supporters “an opportunity of active engagement” with the brand.

COLD&BLAC Original is described as an “incredibly smooth, balanced medium-strength brew” with “strong notes of caramel, chocolate and coffee and a hint of citrusy zest” on the nose, “smooth and bitter-sweet as a pure dark chocolate” on the palate, and an “expansive, earthy warmth” with a “lingering, crisp, dry and intense luxury coffee finish”.

All ingredients are locally sourced, certified Organic, GMO-free, Fair Trade and free from Sulphur, processed cane sugar, added gluten and chemical additives.

A statement by founder Tem Mellese reads: “Whilst [in Ethiopia] visiting my father, a family friend made us coffee using the centuries old, traditional method: washing the pale green beans by hand, roasting them on a tin pot shaker over a coal fire (the smoke wafting around the room to everyone’s meditative approval) and grinding them using a wooden mortar and pestle.

“The grounds were then brought to the boil three times in a narrow necked, bulbous clay flask, creating a wonderfully creamy consistency.

“I wanted to bring as much of this experience with me as I recreated the process and added to the recipe for COLD&BLAC.”
