US distillery plans $1.5m expansion in 2016

Spirits producer Yahara Bay Distillers plans to invest US$1.5 million to convert a former yoga studio into a 20,000 square foot distillery, tasting room and events space.

Yahara Bay Distillers will embark upon a US$1.5m expansion in 2016

First opened in 2007 in Wisconsin, US, Yahara Bay Distillers now makes 40 different products including brandy, rum, whiskey, gin and liqueurs.

Furthermore, the distillery also imports and bottles alcoholic beverages for Vom Fass, which has 32 locations throughout the US.

Now, co-founder of the distillery Nick Quint plans to relocate and increase the distillery’s capacity from 6,000sqft to 20,000sqft in order to meet growing demand.

“Every area of this business has grown,” said Quint, who founded the distillery with Catherine Forde-Quint, as reported by The Capital Times. “We’ll be getting a larger still, larger fermentation tanks. We’re just going to grow up, physically.”

Currently, the distillery employs 12 people but this is forecast to double in the first year following the expansion.

The event space will feature a tasting rooms approximately 10 times larger than the existing one, and will be able to accommodate between 150 and 200 people.

“We’re looking at weddings, smaller rooms for intimate private parties,” said Quint. “There will be a larger gift area and larger art gallery.

“Right now we continuously run behind in production. We can only age 100 barrels of Bourbon here.

“In the new place we can age 600 barrels.”

Construction is scheduled to commence at the start of 2016 and completed by the end of the summer.
