Glenturrent release sells out in two hours
By Kristiane SherryThe James Fairlie Edition, the latest limited release from The Glenturret Distillery, sold out in just two hours to pre-registered purchasers.
The 1982 James Fairlie edition sold out in under two hoursAn ‘exceptionally rare’ 32-year-old single malt, the expression is named after the Perthshire man who restarted production at the Crieff-based Glenturret Distillery in 1957 after the site was closed during the Great Depression.
Edrington, which owns Glenturret, said it expected the bottles to sell quickly. When it went on sale, 45 of the 54 available sold to pre-registered individuals at a price of £395 for 70cl.
As a result, the distillery says it will now open a ballot allocation process for the remaining nine bottles, numbered 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and the collectible 5, 8, 13, and 21.
The ballot will take place on 8 December, with purchasers then receiving delivery of their bottle prior to Christmas.

“The 1982 is the rarest and oldest cask Glenturret owns and there is only one cask from that year available,” said Stuart Cassells, Glenturret Distillery manager, when the James Fairlie Edition was announced.
“There will never be a rarer Glenturret release than this, and I can’t think of a more touching legacy to James Fairlie’s vision. Although gone now, James would have still been alive when this cask was filled in October 1982.”
Last month, The Glenturret marked its 240th anniversary and released a no-age statement range to celebrate the occasion.
