Grant’s gives US first ale cask finished Scotch
By Melita KielyWilliam Grant & Sons has released Grant’s Ale Cask Finish in the US, making it the only blended Scotch whisky of its type in the American market.
Grant’s Ale Cask Finish Blended Scotch Whisky is now available in the USGrant’s master blender Brian Kinsman led the Grant’s blending team in creating the expression, in association with a small Scottish brewing company.
The team finished the variant for up to four months in barrels that were formerly filled with ale.
“I thoroughly enjoy working with different finishes on our blended whiskies – it’s a fascinating process to monitor the evolution as the casks work their magic on the liquid,” said Kinsman.
“We have the end result in mind as we craft all our whiskies, but there is something special about adding the final touch with an interesting finish.
“The resulting flavour of the whisky is so reminiscent of the liquid previously held in the cask, it takes the drinker’s palate on a really remarkable journey.”
Grant’s Ale Cask Finish is said to have a “distinctively” creamy, malty and honeyed taste, and was inspired by Kinsman’s observation that whisky drinkers often enjoy a pint with their Scotch whisky.
“The Grant’s Ale Cask truly demonstrates our innovation pedigree and blending skills that have been handed down through generations of master blenders,” commented Rob Allanson, Grant’s global brand ambassador.
“No other blended Scotch available on the market has been finished in ale casks and we’re proud to be known as the makers of such a unique, award-winning whisky.”
Bottled at 40% abv, Grant’s Ale Cask Finish won a silver medal in The Spirits Business’ Global Scotch Whisky Masters 2015 and will be available in select local US markets at an RRP of US$19.99 per 750ml bottle.
