Glenturret launches ‘rare’ 32-year-old single malt
By Amy HopkinsGlenturret has upped its presence in the single malt Scotch whisky market with the launch of an “exceptionally rare” 32-year-old expression that pays homage to the man who brought the distillery back into production.
The Glenturret James Fairlie Edition pays homage to the man who brought Glenturret Distillery back into productionThe Glenturret James Fairlie Edition is named after the Perthshire man who restarted production at the Crieff-based Glenturret Distillery in 1957 after the site was closed during the Great Depression.
Whisky production had become largely commericialised in the years following the World Wars and Prohibition, the distillery claims, but Fairlie reinstated techniques used at the turn of the 20th century, including hand-mashing, gentle fermentation, slow distillation, and cutting by eye.
“The 1982 is the rarest and oldest cask Glenturret owns and there is only one cask from that year available,” said Stuart Cassells, Glenturret Distillery manager.
“There will never be a rarer Glenturret release than this, and I can’t think of a more touching legacy to James Fairlie’s vision. Although gone now, James would have still been alive when this cask was filled in October 1982.”
Just 54 bottles of the edition have been created and carry an RRP of £395.
Those who register their interest online will be granted exclusive access to purchase a bottle prior to it going on public sale 24-hours later on 2 December.
Glenturret Distillery marked its 240th anniversary earlier this month with the launch of a no-age-statement range of single malt Scotch whiskies.
