Gin with ‘unique’ production process launches
By Amy HopkinsA new “classic” brand of gin made with 24 botanicals has launched in the UK after “years of research and trials”.
Silent Pool Gin is created using 24 botanicals, which are treated in two different waysCreated by the Surrey-based Silent Pool Distillers, the gin contains botanicals such as Bosnian juniper, Bulgarian angelica, honey and grain of paradise.
To create the bottling, Silent Pool distillers Cory Mason and Tom Hutchins travelled to Scotland to research which botanicals would be used at the International Centre for Brewing and Distilling at Heriot Watt University.
Through the use of formal “sensory analysis”, each potential botanical was broken down to identify the “exact fraction” of the flavour that was required.
Silent Pool treats its botanicals in two different ways.
Some are bruised and macerated in the base spirit for a period of 24 hours before being transferred to the still. Others are macerated in a higher proof spirit and then filtered out, leaving only the oils and aromatic compounds to be added to the distillation.
The product is distilled in a column still, allowing a “precise control” over a series of plates and cooling pipes.
“Silent Pool Gin is a classic gin at heart,” said Mason. “It is full-bodied and fresh, with depth, clarity, and above all else flavour.
“Produced with 24 unique botanicals, Silent Pool Gin is a rich and clean juniper-driven spirit with floral layers of lavender and chamomile.”
Silent Pool Distillers is based on the Albury Estate and takes its name from a nearby pair of ancient pools in the Surrey Hills.
