Cognac Renault limited edition marks 180th year

To mark its 180th anniversary, Cognac Renault has released a limited edition bottling of its core Carte Noir Extra Old blend that has been aged for an additional 180 days.

Carte Noire Extra Old Limited Edition has been launched in celebration of Cognac Renault’s 180th anniversary

Only 5,000 bottles of the 40-year-old variant, which has been matured one extra day for each of the house’s 180 years, have been released.

The limited edition marks the first time there has been a modification to the blend, which was first created by company founder Jean-Antonin Renault and contains 50 different eaux-de-vie.

“We didn’t want to produce a new blend”, said Coganc Renault’s master blender, David Croizet. “Our aim was to intensify and add an extra dimension to the Carte Noir Extra Old to mark this milestone in our history.

“Ageing the blend for an extra 180 days, using barrels that are at least 40 years-old, has brought more intensity to the nose and more length and fullness to the palate. The characteristic fruit and spice notes of Carte Noir Extra Old and the hallmark softness have been amplified. ”

The variant is said to have an aroma of liquorice, hazelnut, marmelade, baked apples, topped off with toasty notes of dried fruit and chocolate. The palate is described as “full and silky” with subtle oak and cinnamon flavours.

Carte Noire Extra Old Limited Edition carries an RRP of €99.00.

Earlier this month, Cognac renault owner Altia has appointed former BNIC communications head Jérôme Durand as managing director for its Cognac brands.
