London Distillery Co plans £1.5m expansion

The London Distillery Company is seeking to raise £1.5 million to fund an expansion of Dodd’s Gin and launch the “world’s biggest gin bar” in London.

Dodd’s Gin is hoping to raise £1.5m in crowd-funding

Dodd’s Gin, produced at Battersea’s London Distillery Company, has enlisted private investment firm Envestors to manage its crowd-funding efforts, offering a minimum investment of £150 per person.

LDC will use the funds to “accelerate business expansion plans” by enhancing product development and marketing spend. The company also hopes to build a new “long-term brand home and visitor attraction” in London, including the “world’s biggest gin bar”.

In addition, LDC intends to grow its commercial partnership products, notably, a new gin created in partnership with the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew, London.

Kew Organic Gin is slated to launch in the middle of next month featuring botanicals harvested from the garden itself.

“Growth potential for both Dodd’s and Kew related products in existing markets remains exponential but requires increased sales and marketing expenditure to be competitive before moving into new much larger regions such as the USA and Spain,” the company said.

Dodd’s Gin, LDC’s inaugural product, was first unveiled in 2013.

Named in homage to 18th century entrepreneur and founder of The Intended London Distillery Company Ralph Dodd, the gin is made using a proprietary production process whereby two spirits are created separately and then married together for four weeks.

Dodd’s Gin and LDC’s third party gin brands have experienced 200% sales growth year-on-year since launching and also have existing routes to market channels in Europe and Asia.

The company has today (19 October) opened a crowd-funding pop-up shop in Soho to raise awareness of its campaign, offering cocktails, coffee, food and samples of Dodd’s Gin.

“This is a unique opportunity for people to invest in a truly British manufacturing business based in London,” said LDC’s CEO and co-founder Darren Rook.

“We’re really excited to meet people who love gin and want to know more about what we do. Next year we have some amazing plans for a new distillery space in Battersea, including the world’s biggest gin bar/library.”
