Glenturret marks 240 years with world record bid

Glenturret Distillery is celebrating its 240th anniversary by attempting to set a new world record for the largest number of people simultaneously raising a dram of Scotch whisky.

Glenturret Distillery is set to host a record-breaking attempt next month to mark its 240th year of operation

The Crieff-based distillery, home to The Famous Grouse Experience, is asking at least 240 people to visit its site at 5pm on Thursday 5 November to take part in the record-breaking attempt.

The dram raising will be followed by a giant selfie to mark the event. Visitors will also have the chance to take part on free-of-charge distillery tours and pop-up catering.

“We have been producing exceptional whisky on this site, at what is now Glenturret Distillery, for over two centuries and we are unique in that we are now Scotland’s only remaining producer of hand mashed whisky,” said Stuart Cassells, general manager at The Famous Grouse Experience at Glenturret Distillery.

“We are very proud of our heritage and that we are able to keep these artisan processes alive in the 21st century, 240 years after the first whisky was distilled right here, in Crieff.

“Our ‘raise a dram’ world record attempt is, we think, a fitting way to mark 240 years of Glenturret Distillery standing alongside members of the public and whisky lovers from the area.”

Members of the public can sign up to take part by visiting www.theglenturret.com and visiting the page dedicated to “Celebrating 240 Years”.

In May this year, the distillery released a “rare” 28-year-old single cask Scotch whisky, described as its best launch yet.
