Smirnoff Ice bottles may contain glass
Diageo has pulled bottles of Smirnoff Ice from shelves in Canada due to concerns they may contain fragments of glass.
Select Smirnoff Ice bottles have been recalled in Canada due to concerns they may contain fragments of glassThe group’s Canadian arm has recalled 11 variants of Smirnoff in four, 12 and individual bottle packages.
Bottlings affected include the standard 330ml Smirnoff Ice variant, in addition to Peach Bellini, Green Apple, Raspberry, Cranberry & Lime, Watermelon Mimosa, Orange Screwdriver and variety packs, among others.
The affected bottles came from a third-party glass manufacturer that supplies bottles to the company for use in Canada and were discovered during quality assurance checks.
However Diageo said it believes “significantly less than 1% of these bottles are impacted” and that it has not received any reports from consumers relating to the impacted bottles.
“After discovering the issue, the company immediately notified the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and began notifying and working with its broker and customers to arrange for all potentially impacted bottles to be removed from retail,” a statement from Diageo read.
The firm said it is working with the glass supplier to resolve their production issue. The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.
See the table below for a full list of impacted bottles. Consumers who have purchased the particular Smirnoff Ice flavors listed above on or after July 24, 2015 should check to see if any of their purchases match the flavors and lot codes.
