Black Button unveils ‘grain to glass’ Bourbon
By Melita KielyBlack Button Distilling is readying to launch a “grain to glass” whiskey made in New York, called Four Grain Bourbon.
Black Button Distilling has created “grain to glass” Four Grain BourbonThe expression is aged between 14 to 26 months in American white oak barrels, comprising 60% corn, 20% wheat, 9% rye and 11% barley.
Each grain variety is grown on one farm in Groveland, New York, to deliver a “true ‘grain to glass’” product.
“Bourbon Manhattans were my grandfather’s drink,” said Jason Barrett, owner and head distiller. “Every family dinner I would watch him pop the ice in the glass, measure two pours of Bourbon and a portion of sweet vermouth into the glass.
“I’ve taken up my grandfather’s ritual and it’s evolved as I’ve aged. My interest in distilled spirits grew over the years and when the chance to learn to distil came along, I jumped at it.
“People always ask me if it was a hard decision to start my own company. And for me it wasn’t a decision, it was a series of them.
“It was a driving desire to strike out on my own. To make my mark on the world.”
Four Grain Bourbon will launch on 25 September and will be available from the Black Button Distilling tasting room, liquor stores and distributors throughout New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Michigan at an RRP of US$49.99 per 750ml bottle.
