New Japanese whisky brand launches in Europe
By Amy HopkinsJapan’s Monde Shuzo Distillery has partnered up with European distributor Les Whiskies du Monde to launch a new single malt Japanese whisky, Fujikai 10 Year Old.
Fujikai 10 Year Old has been aged in ex-Bourbon barrelsThe first release under the Fujikai label, the whisky has been matured in ex-Bourbon casks for 10 years and is said to have a “dry and rich” flavour of warm spices, walnut and vanilla.
Fujikai 10 Year Old has been produced by Monde Shuzo Distillery, founded in 1952 in the city of Fuefuki, and will be distributed France-based Les Whiskies du Monde exclusively in Europe.
The brand’s name pays tribute to its home country with references to both Mount Fuji and the former Yamanashi prefecture, once named Kai.
Fujikai 10 Year Old, bottled at 43% abv, is now available in limited quantities.
As demand for Japanese whisky grows, a number of producers have been forced to reassess their age statements. Earlier this year, Nikka Whisky has confirmed its decision to discontinue a number of its aged products, replacing some with no-age-statements.
