By Annie HayesA new ready-to-drink flavoured whiskey beverage combining rye whiskey, green tea and blue agave has launched in the US.
The drink contains 140.8mg of polyphenols – the central compound in green tea that delivers much of its antioxidant benefit – per 8oz servingMarlee’s Green Tea Whiskey is made in Bardstown, Kentucky from American rye whiskey, Chinese gunpowder green tea and organic Mexican blue agave.
Jared Berlin, creator of Marlee’s Green Tea Whiskey, claims the drink contains 140.8mg of polyphenols – the central compound in green tea that delivers much of its antioxidant benefit – per 8oz serving, which is “more than most cups of green tea”.
Berlin said: “When properly blended, whiskey and tea together create a stunningly refreshing drink that retains the integrity of both the tea and whiskey.
“I set out to develop a product unique from anything else currently in the market – using only amazing ingredients in the right balance – to celebrate this fantastic combination.”
To make the drink, the tea is brewed and blended with American rye whiskey and agave, filtered, and then the remaining liquid is bottled at 14.95% abv and labelled in Bardstown.
The RTD has launched in Florida and is due to roll out in markets around the country at an RRP of US$17.99.
Earlier this month, The Famous Grouse’ RTD Ginger Grouse had a packaging makeover to create a “much stronger link” to the whisky brand and recruit new consumers to the category.
