BenRiach plans £25m expansion after ‘record’ year

The BenRiach Distillery Company, owner of Glenglassaugh and GlenDronach distilleries, has reported “record” annual profits and announced a £25 million investment into the company.

As well as producing BenRiach Scotch whisky, The BenRiach Distillery Company also owns Glenglassaugh and GlenDronach

The firm saw pre-tax profits increase 24% to £11.1m, and turnover rise 17.6% to £41.5m on the previous year.

“We’re delighted to announce record profits in our eleventh year and it’s all down to the hard work, passion and commitment of our people across our four sites,” said Billy Walker, managing director.

“We continue to make significant strides in brand development where we are concentrating our efforts on the top end of the market.

“We are an independent, boutique business and we see each distillery as having ‘Grand Cru Chateau’ provenance.”

Walker, and his two South African partners Geoff Bell and Wayne Kieswetter acquired BenRiach in 2004, before buying GlenDronach in 2008, a five-line bottling plant in Newbridge in 2010 and Glenglassaugh in March 2013.

The company boasts 120 employees across all four of its facilities.

Earlier this year, The BenRiach Distillery Company was the only spirits producer to be named as one of the most inspirational British businesses by the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG).
