At home cocktail experimentation on the rise

More than a third of Britons (34%) are endeavouring to create cocktails at home, but the nation is divided when it comes to picking a favourite.

A growing number of Britons are experimenting with homemade cocktails, according to a new study

A survey conducted by thebar.com showed those residing in the north of the UK admit to preferring a G&T (17%) while those from the south enjoy drinking Pimm’s No.1 and lemonade (20%).

In addition, the study – which questioned 1,007 people across the country who are aged over 18-years-old – showed that cocktail drinking is on the up with a third (33%) drinking more mixed drinks compared to five years ago.

“People are no longer content with standard drink options; they’re looking for new and exciting experiences,” said Sarah Browne, spokesman for thebar.com.

“As part of our Shake It Up campaign we want to show people how easy it is to create these drinks at home and that they don’t need to be an expert mixologist or have all of the equipment to make them.”

More than half of those questioned (59%) said holidays were the ideal time to drink cocktails and 51% classed them as the perfect barbecue drink.

Cocktail parties are also becoming more popular with 46% of Londoners planning to host one this summer.
