Cask strength Scallywag Scotch whisky released
By Amy HopkinsScotch whisky bottler Douglas Laing & Co has released a limited edition cask strength version of its family dog-inspired Scallywag Speyside blended malt whisky.
Just 1,000 bottles of Scallywag Cask Strength have been releasedA vatting of several single malts from across Speyside’s distilleries – including Mortlach, Macallan and Glenrothes amongst others – the original Scallywag expression was unveiled in October 2013.
The whisky was inspired by the Laing family’s Fox Terrier, whose image features prominently in its packaging.
Bottled at 53.6% abv, Scallywag Cask Strength is described as a “complex, powerful” whisky that “heightens” the character of the original expression.
“This Cask Strength Scallywag bottling makes the wee dog’s eyes pop, his ears blow open and his monocle ping – but it will make your palate sing,” said Douglas Laing & Co’s managing director Fred Laing.
“The mellifluously fruity, spicy character and barley, mocha, vanilla and orange-y flavours make it a human treat worth begging for.”
Just 1,000 bottles of Scallywag Cask Strength are available from June 2015 from specialist whisky retailers.
In January this year, Douglas Laing &Co released a new blend created using “maritime malts”, called Rock Oyster.
