Inventor unveils alcohol freezing machine

An inventor is aiming to revolutionise how consumers drink alcohol and eliminate “watered down” drinks by creating a machine that turns any type of alcohol into ice in a matter of minutes.

An inventor has created a machine that can freeze any type of alcohol

Jason Sherman, founder of start-up company Beyond Zero, has invented a machine that freezes any spirit, wine or beer up to 76 degrees Fahrenheit colder than regular ice cubes.

To make the frozen cubes, liquid alcohol must be poured into one end of the machine, which then freezes it within minutes before dispensing it as cubes.

“Once you mix the ice cubes with more liquor or a mixer, they melt and you have this incredible drink that has removed the ethanol bite leaving behind great flavours regardless of the type of spirit,” Sherman told CNBC.

He explained the machine is capable of producing enough ice per single drink every two minutes and added: “It constantly makes ice throughout the day and can keep up with demand.”

Current projections price the full-sized unit at US$10,000, but two smaller single serve units have also been created and are set to cost within the region of US$3,000 to US$5,000.

Sherman is already taking pre-sale orders and told the news site he expects the Beyond Zero machines to go on commercial sale by September this year, pending regulatory approvals, before targeting retail consumers in 2016.

The Beyond Zero firm first launched in 2008 in Louisville, Kentucky, and raised US$1 million through crowd-funding.
