NOLA Brewing readies to launch micro-distillery
By Melita KielyThe co-founder of New Orleans Lager and Ale (NOLA) Brewing Company is planning to launch a micro-distillery later this year that will initially distil vodka, gin and white whiskey.
The co-founder of NOLA Brewing plans to launch NOLA Distilling in October this yearKirk Coco, president and co-founder of the brewery, revealed his plans to open NOLA Distillery could come to fruition as early as October this year.
“New Orleans is known as the birthplace of the cocktail,” Coco told The Advocate, “yet is only home to a handful of craft spirit distillers.
“We want to make hand-crafted, high-quality spirits in New Orleans for New Orleans.”
David Bock, who used to work with Celebration Distillation, will take up the role of head distiller and explained the proposals to create a vodka, gin and white whiskey were still being fine-tuned.
“We don’t want to release something that isn’t the absolute best,” said Bock. “We are aiming to create premiere products for consumption.”
Andy Kutcher, who was in charge of NOLA Brewing’s marketing from 2009-2012 will join the new venture as chief operating officer.
