Key developments in Kentucky Bourbon heists

Major developments have emerged in two high profile heists of Pappy Van Winkle and Wild Turkey Bourbon which may lead to further charges.

Police have uncovered key information that could lead to further indictments in the Pappy Van Winkle and Wild Turkey Bourbon heists

Following the recent arrest of Buffalo Trace worker Gilbert Thomas Curtsinger in connection with the theft of five barrels of Wild Turkey worth up to US$30,000, authorities claim more whiskey may have been stolen than originally thought.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton, the heist may have also involved “several people” and could involve multiple indictments, ABC News reports.

Melton called off a press conference that was scheduled for yesterday claiming a “new lead” will delay presenting the case to Franklin’s grand jury, however he would not disclose specific details except that the case may be referred to the jury by next week.

“We just had a major development today that has opened up a couple more doors for us, and we’re going to follow up on that,” Melton told ABC News yesterday.

Last month, officers received a tip-off and discovered the Wild Turkey barrels in 45-year-old Curtsinger’s backyard with spray paint covering their labels.

He appeared at Franklin County District Court pleading not guilty to multiple offences, including receiving stolen property more than US$10,000.

The crime comes almost two years after 200 bottles worth US$26,000 of rare Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon were stolen from the Buffalo Trace Distillery, in a suspected “inside job”

According to WKYT, while police said the any connection between the two cases is “yet to be seen”, they expect to make an indictment in the Pappy Van Winkle theft imminently with the discovery of “new developments”.

A new press conference relating to the two cases has been rescheduled for next Tuesday 21 April.
