England’s Chilgrove Gin made available in Canada

England’s first gin distilled from grapes, Chilgrove Gin, is set to make its debut appearance in Canada this month, thanks to the “soaring interest” of British craft spirits in the country.

Chilgrove Gin will soon hit the shelves in Canada

The spirit, made is Sussex, will soon be available in Canada following a collaboration with Société des Alcools du Québec (SAQ), Chilgrove’s export partner, The British Bottle Company (BBC), and Canadian distributer, Univins.

There has been a huge gin boom across Canada in recent years, and the spirit now accounts for 10% of all spirit sales in Quebec, with imports of English gin accounting for over CA$36 million according to the SAQ.

Christopher Beaumont-Hutchings, co-founder of Chilgrove Gin, said: “We’re delighted to hear that English gin is soaring in interest in Canada.

“Sales of gin in Canada continue to increase year-on-year and English gin will surely continue to be a huge driver in the premium spirits market in Canada and worldwide.”

The export, which is the BBC’s first major contract, will see the gin grace shops and bars across Quebec.

Red Johnson, founder of The British Bottle Company, added: “This is a very exciting time for British craft spirit exports and Canada is highly influential as a market for British luxury drinks brands.

“British exports complement the high quality spirits created by the new generation of Canadian craft distillers, so the market is perfect for a brand such as Chilgrove Gin. We are delighted it is our first major contract.”

Launched in Summer 2014, the gin was the first of its kind to be made in England using alcohol distilled from grapes rather than cereal.

It is also the first to partner with the world-renowned English sporting event, AAM Cowes Week 2015, which will take place at the English seaport on the Isle of Wight on 8-15 August.

The RRP for Chilgrove Gin is CA$69.00 for 70cl.
